The Global Sri Lankan Congress announced their candidacy for the upcoming local government elections at a press conference held in the Gampaha district. The party’s leader, Mr. Manju Nisshanka, explained that a registered party and symbol are necessary to participate in the elections, and that the Global Sri Lankan Congress will be running with the tap one symbol of the Arunalu Janata Peramuna.
Mr. Nisshanka went on to state that the party is fielding teams for the four local government bodies in the Gampaha district, and hopes to send a message that a new political leadership is ready to bring about the changes demanded by the people of the country. He expressed his belief that the current government, led by Ranil Wickramasinghe and the Rajapaksa family, no longer has the trust of the people, and that the local government election is an opportunity to show the true opinion of the people.
A group of leaders and candidates representing the Global Sri Lankan Congress also joined the press conference, and urged the people to join them in their mission to change the corrupt political system. The press conference was attended by Global Sri Lankan Congress leader Manju Nishanka, Global Sri Lankan Congress candidates, social media activists and others.
